If you live in Oklahoma, more than likely you’ve heard of the OERB. Collectively, the organization better known as the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board represents every worker, business and royalty owner that makes up Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry. That’s a lot to be sure. But bigger still, is what the OERB does.

THE OERB IS:

VOLUNTARILY FUNDED BY OKLAHOMA’S OIL & NATURAL GAS PRODUCERS AND ROYALTY OWNERS
THE VOICE OF OKLAHOMA’S OIL & NATURAL GAS INDUSTRY
DEDICATED TO PROVIDING A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL OKLAHOMANS

Twenty-five years and counting.

In 1993, industry leaders, along with the state legislature formed the OERB with the mission to clean up abandoned well sites on property across Oklahoma. And the entire cost to restore every acre is voluntarily funded by Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas producers and royalty owners.

A percentage of every barrel of oil and every MCF of natural gas produced contributes to restoring Oklahoma land to productivity. So far, nearly 20,000 abandoned well sites have been cleaned up at a cost of nearly $120 million dollars – paid for in full by the voluntary contributions of Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry.

THE OERB HAS:

CLEANED UP NEARLY 20,000 ABANDONED WELL SITES AT A COST OF NEARLY $120 MILLION DOLLARS
CONTRIBUTED NEARLY $50 MILLION TO EDUCATION PROGRAMS
TRAINED MORE THAN 15,500 TEACHERS
CONTRIBUTED $5 MILLION IN STUDENT FIELD TRIPS TO LOCAL MUSEUMS
PROVIDED UP TO $1,100 IN FREE STEM-RELATED MATERIALS FOR TEACHERS
DONATED $2 MILLION IN STEM-BASED SUPPORT
FUNDED OVER $4 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS
BUILT A DIRECT PATH TO INDUSTRY CAREERS THROUGH PETROTECH

A mission to help every Oklahoma teacher and student.

Working side-by-side with teachers, the OERB created energy and STEM-based curricula and all the lessons, books, experiments and materials to go with it, offering it free to teachers across the state. These materials have now been sent to 98% of Oklahoma school districts.

To date, the OERB has contributed nearly $50 million dollars on education programs, including curricula development, classroom supplies, field trips, continuing education workshops and a recent $2 million contribution to STEM-based resources.

Keeping kids safe.

The OERB’s education efforts also include teaching kids and teens about the dangers of playing around well sites. In school, online and on TV, the OERB makes sure kids know that well sites are duh-duh-dangerous.

Technical careers and scholarships.

PetroTech is an OERB program that offers a direct path to industry technical careers. It provides the training and certification for future geologists, engineers or land technicians. Additionally, the OERB has awarded more than $4 million dollars in scholarships to Oklahoma students in the just the last decade.

Reaching out to all Oklahomans.

The OERB also serves as the voice of Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas producers and royalty owners. Through EnergyHQ.com, the OERB showcases industry efforts to protect and preserve the environment, and the many ways energy advances our state economy and our quality of life.

The OERB’s mission is probably bigger than you thought: restoring our home state to its natural beauty, supporting teachers and helping provide a link between STEM concepts and real-life job opportunities, to keeping folks informed about and safe around well sites. And every penny is voluntarily provided by Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry through the OERB.
